Why Life Groups

Life groups are not something that FBC dreamed up, or thought might be a great ideal. Life groups are an idea that started around 33A.D. in the book of Acts. In Acts 2:42 we find Christian’s meeting together in fellowship and having a meal. What was the result of meeting together? Well, Acts 4:32 states that ALL believers were one in mind and heart. This is the place that we desire all believers in Delta Co. and Cooper FBC to be. We hope to regain a sense of community and family that has been stolen from us by our enemy …Satan.

Our life styles are that of fast pace, microwavable speeds with no time to sit and enjoy family, friends, and brothers and sisters in Christ. Church is no different….come in, sit down and listen…never question…never express our opinion…never get answers to maybe a confusing statement or belief. Later, in the book of Acts (Acts 17:11), we find believers studying the things that had been said to see if it was true to the Word. This is one of the many goals that we hope will happen in Life Groups: to come together and study the Word, break bread and enjoy life together. “Do life together,” as Bro. Johnny said….slow down, spend time together, read and study scripture…ask questions…pick each other’s brain, if you will. If the church doesn’t try to put families back together and help build community in the body, don’t expect the lost world to. So, this is another goal…to come along side broken families (lost or Christian) and invest our time and resources in them. Gathering in homes, in a safe, trusting, family setting is a foreign concept this day and time.

Here is another foreign concept…trusting one another with our darkest sin, our fears, and our dreams. So, another goal for Life Groups is that our homes will be a safe place to talk about things like our fears, secret sins, or our hopes and dreams without the fear of feeling like nobody cares or that nobody has the same thing going on or has been through what we are experiencing now. We have to become family again; we are the body, not just any body, but the body of Christ. We need to start acting like the body that has been and still is powered by the Holy Spirit that lives in us. So let’s think again about the vision and goals of Life Groups: build up the family…regain the sense of community…trust one another…do life with one another…build up the body of Christ…have the same mind and heart…reach our lost community…put broken families back together…have a deeper walk with Christ…invest our lives in others. Ok, hopefully, you have an idea of “Why Life Groups?” There will be many Life Groups for all ages and places in life. Just pick one and get involved. Let’s do Life Together!
